Welcome to Year 3
Year 3 First Holy Communion
Year 3 Water Fight!!!
Year 3 Reconciliation Assembly
Crowning of Mary Mass
Earth Day 2022
We made our own models and the children thought about what they love about the Earth and what they could do to improve it.
Year 3 got creative using egg boxes to recreate The Last Supper.
Science Week in Year 3
We set some 'traps' to measure how much pollution is in the air in different places around school. We found that the trap near the road captured the most particles.
Children's Mental Health Week
We have looked after our mental health this week by doing peer massage, writing our worries in a rucksack and thinking about what makes us happy.
Science in Year 3! We’ve had lots of fun testing out friction this week.
Year 3 Christmas Party!
Trip to the M6 theatre
We met up with our Linking School to watch the Mavis Sparkle play then we participated in workshops to practise our acting skills. What a fantastic day it was!
Anti-bullying Week
As part of Anti-bullying Week, we talked about our similarities and differences and how we are all unique. We made posters with our partners to compare and contrast all the things that make up our identity.
As part of Children’s Mental Health Week, we made feelings monsters in Year 3.
Have you filled a bucket with happiness today? In Year 3, we have!
Here we are in September and we are so happy to have your children back in school. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome your child into Year 3; we are excited and enthusiastic to get stuck in to learning again. The children have all come back in such a sensible and grown-up manner and we are really proud of them. We are really looking forward to this year with them and we have lots of exciting things planned.
Mrs Giordani will be teaching all day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and alternate Thursday mornings. Miss Moore will teach alternate Thursday mornings and all day Friday, with Mrs Killoran covering PPA on Thursday afternoons when she will teach music and Art/ Design Technology.
Water bottles and snacks – please ensure that your child has a labelled water bottle in school. This needs to be taken home each day and washed. Children can bring in a piece of fruit to eat at break time if they wish.
Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit on a Friday.
PE will be outside for the first half-term, so children will need to wear something warm like a tracksuit or leggings and a hoodie, with a plain white t-shirt underneath. We would advise wearing trainers rather than pumps for safety.
Reading books – reading books will be sent home on Mondays. Please ensure book bags are back in school on Mondays.
Spellings - will be sent home on a Monday and children will be tested on the Friday.
Homework – it is really important that the children read every night and practise their spellings and times tables at home (TT Rockstars for tables and Spelling Frame for spellings). Your support with these activities can’t be overstated because as you are now very aware the range of spellings that the children need to secure is vast.

Hello Year 3, 8th October 2020
We are very excited to introduce a new home reading scheme called Reading Planet at school. It's online and the children will work through their assigned books on their own and answer short quizzes. We are hoping this will help with comprehension skills and make reading fun for the children.

We have sent out usernames and passwords on a separate email.
Good luck and thank you for your patience while we set this up.

Hello Year 3! Until 15th October, all your work will be set on Seesaw or Purple Mash. You also have your logins for Spelling Frame and TTRockstars so please practise your times tables and spellings as much as possible. If you have any questions at all, please email us at: year3@smrc-lit.co.uk.
See you very soon,
Mrs Giordani and Mrs Killoran
Hello Year 3 and parents/carers,
We will be back on Thursday 15th October 2020, but you have proved you are more than capable of working from home. Here's your work for tomorrow. Good luck!
Monday 5th October 2020
English – Go to Spelling Frame and practise your spellings – I have added some more words too. You can do the tests and games to practise and practise. You don’t need to send evidence as I can log in and see what you have done. There will be a whole school competition with Spelling Frame soon so the more we play, the more points we get! Now, choose 5 of the words and put them into sentences with capital letters and full stops.
Maths – I want you to practise you number bonds to 10 and 20 today. Complete the sheets or simply write the answers on paper. Next, I want you to make number cards (1 – 20) out of small pieces of paper and play this game: put the cards in a pile face down and turn them over one by one. Challenge your parents to see if they can answer the number bonds to 20 as quickly as you can!
Star jump challenge – please keep trying to beat your score. You do star jumps for 60 seconds and make sure you clap at the top! If you get a parent to time you, you can be added to the leader board!
Religion – October is the month of the Holy Rosary. We have noticed some of you are saying the Hail Mary wrong. Please could you write out the Hail Mary prayer in your very best handwriting making sure your y, p, g, j, q go UNDER the line and your b, d, h, k, l, and t are nice and tall.
Could you draw a lovely picture of Our Lady and if you get a chance pray the Rosary with your Rosary beads if you have them.
Thank you. We do appreciate all you do with you children.
Mrs Killoran and Mrs Giordani.
Friday 25th September
Hooray it’s Friday! We are so excited to see you back at school on Monday!
Guess what? Year 3 has won Class of the Week for being absolute superstars! WELL DONE!
Here is your work for today:
English – Please practise your spellings again so that you know them by Wednesday for your test.
Maths – I would like you to have a go at the sheet on counting in 50s. The first sheet is for everyone and the second sheet is the optional challenge. As always, there is a sheet for Mrs McCormick’s group.
ERIC time – Read for 15 minutes independently.
Religion/Computing – log onto Purple Mash and go to the “To Dos” at the top of the screen. Click onto Expressing joy where there is an audio of me telling you what to do. You are going write what makes you joyful – don’t forget to think about God and His wonderful world.
PE – Try one of the Joe Wicks’ workouts.
Thursday 24th September
Hello Year 3! It’s already Thursday and we are nearly back at school! We can’t wait to see you all.
Just a gentle reminder to some of you to do your Purple Mash work from this week. If you have lost your login then just email us and we will email it back to you – thank you.
English – Today I would like you to look at the photo of Morris. What does he look like? Can you describe him with some adjectives? Now, I would like you to think about how he may be feeling and why. I would like you to write some sentences under the picture describing his appearance and his feelings. It would be great if you could use ‘because’ in a sentence too.
Maths – Please complete the sheet on place value.
ERIC time – Read for 15 mins independently.
Science – We talked about the different food groups in science. I would like you to draw me a healthy plate and label the food groups. I have attached an example of what to do.
Religion - Sit as a family and do this class worship together – see the sheet for guidance. It will take about 5 or 10 minutes.
Work for Wednesday 23rd September 2020
Hello Year 3! Well it’s already Wednesday and you’re doing great so far! Keep up the good work!
English – I would like you to start off with a word search today and then you need to write out your spellings. You need to know which group you are in (tigers, lions or bears). You will be tested on these on Wednesday 30th September so please learn them and their meanings.
Maths – I’d like you to carry on with comparing numbers. Everyone is to do the first sheet but the second sheet is the optional challenge today. As usual, there is also a different sheet for Mrs McCormick’s group.
ERIC time - Read for 15 minutes independently.
Geography – To look at the Power point on Climate zones and try and learn the 6 different climates. Write one sentence about each climate zone from the power point.
This next part is OPTIONAL so you DON’T have to do it, but thought it might be fun to do – even if you just google to find out the information.
Find one animal that lives in each of the climate zones and either:
- write a sentence about each animal and why they live there. For example: A mountain goat lives in the mountainous climate zone. They have hooves that have two toes that spread wide apart so they can grip onto the mountain.
OR
- Draw a picture of one animal in each climate zone.
Music/computing – log onto Purple Mash and go to the “To Dos” at the top of the screen. Click onto 2 Explore where there is an audio of me telling you what to do. You are going to make a composition (a piece of music) with different instruments and change the tempo (speed).
Good luck!
Mrs Killoran and Mrs Giordani
Tuesday 22nd September
Good morning Year 3! Hope you are all ok.
Here is your work for today:
English – I’d like you to listen to the story again up to page 5 and answer the questions here.
Next, I would like you to complete the sheet on pronouns.
Maths – We are carrying on with comparing numbers. Have a go at the sheet. Be careful with questions 10 and 11, there are several possible answers. As always, there is an optional challenge here. I have added a sheet for the children who work with Mrs McCormick.
Art - Please go to this website
https://www.coolkidfacts.com/claude-monet/ and find out about the artist Monet and fill in the attached sheet.
Music – Yesterday, I asked you to listen to Peter and the wolf by Prokofiev https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ueGfjBKbiE
Today, I want you to re-watch the first 2 and a half minutes and think about the instruments that are used for each character. Please fill in the attached sheet and draw the instruments for each character.
Please just try your best. We completely understand that this is a difficult situation for everyone. Any questions, just email us.
Thank you,
Mrs Giordani and Mrs Killoran

Hello Year 3! We hope you are all well and staying safe. This is your work for today.
English - Today, we are going to start our new class book which is called The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr Morris Lessmore.
The first thing I want you to do is predict what the book is about. Talk to an adult about your ideas then complete the sheet. Remember your question marks!
Obviously, we can't read the book together but I have found a reading of it on youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXhXFEVRdhs. I'd like you to read along with the story until page 4 where it says 'And wander'. It stops at 2:00 mins on the youtube story.
Now, I'd like you to match up the vocabulary sheet here. Speak to an adult about the meaning of these new words then write them in sentences please.
Maths - Please look at the PowerPoint on comparing objects and then complete the worksheet called Y3 Autumn Block 1. I have also attached a challenge called 'Reasoning and Problem Solving' if you want to have a go at it - this is optional.

Dear Parents / Carers,
Here we are in September and we are so happy to have your children back in school. They have had such a long time off due to Covid-19 but we are excited and enthusiastic to get stuck in to learning again. The children have all come back in such a sensible and grown-up manner and we are really proud of them. We are really looking forward to this year with them and we have lots of exciting things planned.
Mrs Giordani will be teaching all day Tuesday, Wednesday morning, Thursday morning and all day on Friday. Mrs Killoran will teach all day Monday, Wednesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon.
Water bottles and snacks – please ensure your child has a water bottle in school. This needs to be taken home each day and washed. Children can bring in a piece of fruit to eat at break time if they wish.
PE – our PE day will be on Fridays.
Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit on a Friday.
To minimise the risk of cross-contamination, we will no longer get changed for PE in school for the foreseeable future. PE will be outside, so children will need to wear something warm like a track suit or leggings and a hoodie. We would advise wearing trainers rather than pumps for safety.
Reading books – reading books will be sent home on Wednesdays. Please ensure book bags are back in school on Mondays.
Spellings - will be sent home on a Wednesday and children will be tested the following Wednesday.
Homework – it is essential that the children read every night, practise spellings and times tables at home. This is incredibly helpful and important for your child.
We have attached our medium term plan for Autumn to let you know what we will be doing this term.
If you have any queries then please email us at: year3@smrc-lit.co.uk or phone the office. At the moment, it is difficult to chat at the door, but if it can be done at a distance then we are happy to see you there too.

Aboriginal Art 8/7/20
After researching Ayers Rock yesterday in our bubble, we looked at the Anangu tribe that live on the land and provide workshops for tourists. One of them was creating a piece of aboriginal art so we decided to have a go ourselves. We chose our animal template (see below) and used ear buds to create the dot pattern. They have turned amazingly and we are very proud. If you would like to do one at home, remember to email a picture over to Miss Moore or Mrs Cavanagh as we would love to see them.

Landmarks in the continent of Oceania WB 6/7/20
This week in the Year 2/3 bubble in school we continue our journey looking at famous landmarks around the world. This week we are looking at two from the continent of Oceania. One being one of the most iconic buildings in the world and the other a world famous natural landmark. All of the activities that we will do in school linked to the landmarks are listed below. The first task will be writing questions that we want to find the answers to in our research. Then there is a power point and reading comprehension/reading activities and an opportunity to write factual sentences about what you have learnt. We are also going to do some artwork and see if we can draw the landmarks.
We really hope that you are enjoying this topic. Please remember to send us any work that you do at home to our class email. We love to hear from you and to see what you have been learning.

North American Landmarks 29/6/20 for Year 2 and 3
This week we will continue our journey 'Around the World' in the Year 2 and 3 bubble. We are going to research and learn about some famous landmarks in the continent of North America and we invite you to join us.
Just as we did last week we have sheets below where you can create a poster or factfile about your chosen landmark on the computer and practise your I.T. skills. Or choose one of the lined sheets to write some factual sentences about the landmark that you have chosen. When you click on the document just enable editing to set the page before you print it.
We have included some websites for you to read and research the landmarks as well as some video clips on youtube. We have also put a sheet of facts about the Statue of Liberty and a comprehension task that goes with it. There is a photograph of the Statue of Liberty from which you could create your own jigsaw. You decide how many pieces and the shape of the pieces and then see if you can put it all back together. There are also links to youtube guides to help you draw some of the landmarks.
Have fun and enjoy learning about these famous landmarks. Please share any work that you do with us, if it is your art work or a factfile, by sending it to your class email and as always we will respond. We look forward to seeing your work!

European Landmarks WB 22/6/20 for Year 2 and 3
As part of our Around the World learning we are going to learn about some famous landmarks. We are starting with some European landmarks including Big Ben, The Eiffel Tower and The Colosseum. Below are some sheets that you can use to research each of these landmarks and then use the facts that you have learnt to create a poster about one or each of the landmarks. You can do this poster on a laptop (see the PC sheet) or you can write about the landmark using the sheet with the lines. If you use your PC or laptop can you change the colour of the font (lettering,) or the size of the writing or add some new images of the landmark? For your research record where you would see the landmark, how old the landmark is, why the landmark is famous, how many people visit it and any other interesting facts.
We will also be doing some art work where we will try to draw the landmarks. We have included some step by step drawing guides that may encourage/help you with this.
Thank you to those of you who have emailed your learning/work about the world so far. We would love to see more! Please do ask your parents to email us a photograph of your work or if you create a poster on the PC it can be emailed as an attachment to us. If you are only just about to start learning about the Continents (see Around the World June Project below) then please do send your work. We are interested in whatever learning you have been doing so please keep in touch.

As well as conjunctions we will be working on the Year 2 and 3/4 common exception words in spellings-here they are to help you practise at home:
year-3-and-4-common-exception-words-word-mat-_ver_2.pdf
We we will then use them in our writing on our toucan fact file. We will use these websites for research and this sheet for the fact file:

We will also be working on our school's mission statement and what it means to us using this sheet:
We will be starting our 'All around the world' topic.' Please see the posts below and on the Year 2 page for the resources for these. We will be continuing to use the place value work from the booklet in the post below for last week.
Please keep emailing your work to myself and Year 2 to Miss Moore so we can share it with the bubble in school so it can be like we are all learning together.
Alongside this we ask that the children still access the online resources on BBC Bitesize, Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. Remember just 10 minutes a day on TT Rockstars and Spelling Frame will make such a difference!
Keep safe,
Mrs Cavanagh and Miss Moore :)
Week beginning 8.6.20
This week in our Year 2 and 3 key-worker bubble we have done some extra activities, before starting our 'Around the World' project-see more information and resources for this below. We will be continuing on this project next week using these resources.
In addition to them we have revised number and place value in maths using these:
Maths Number Place and Value Workbook Year 2 Ones.pdf
We looked at uplevelling sentences using these:
t-t-252811-jungle-writing-stimulus-picture.pdf
In RE we looked at God loving everyone, and his new commandment, as well as our dreams for after lockdown using Martin Luther King as inspiration these:
T-T-28239-We-All-Fit-Together-Mindfulness-Colouring-Sheet.pdf
We also learnt how to draw a toucan, as we have given our bubble name the 'Terrific Toucans!' using this tutorial video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4f_gQH7Skk
I would love to see your work and I will share it with the class in our bubble so please share using the class email year3@smrc-lit.co.uk

Around Our World - June Project
Hello Year 3,
We have another really interesting project that we would like to share with you for this half-term. The year 2 and 3 key worker children who will be in school will be starting this project this week and we want you to join in with us. Below are links to the powerpoints and activities that the children in school will do in their topic work this week.
My Continents Mini Book Week 1.pdf Create your own mini book
Espresso also has it's own section about the World called Passport in the KS1 Geography section.
Espresso Login student18703 password stmarys
If you have saved the password for Espresso follow the link below and it should take you to the main 'Passport' page. From here you can learn about the different continents and about some countries within each.
When you feel ready, there is a continents quiz below for you to try to label each continent.
https://www.twinkl.co.uk/go/resource/tg-g-08-continents-and-oceans-labelling-activity
We will continue to add to these resources as we move through the topic in school.
Don't forget any work that you are doing at home, please share with us by emailing year3@smrc-lit.co.uk and we will respond to you. If it's work around our new topic we will share it with your friends in school, then we are all learning together.
Also remember to keep up with the basics, Maths and English, BBC Bitesize is great for this. We have reset all of your TT Rockstars and had a look to see who has been practising! We can see that some of you really have been working on this, but it would be great if we all practised, even if it was just for 5 or 10 minutes each day. Remember to keep reading and to use Spelling Frame so that you keep those Year 1 and 2 spellings in your head.
Take care and we look forward to hearing from you,
Mrs Cavanagh
Week beginning 18.05.2020 Science Work Week
Hello Year 3! I am missing you lots and hope you are all keeping safe.
As always, I would like you to log in to TT Rockstars and the BBC Bitesize website daily to complete the activities on there. In addition I would like you to focus on some science work this week. Enjoy some family time too-playing in the garden, nature walks, make a den, bake, paint and so on.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/zmyxxyc/year-3-and-p4-lessons/1
https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-3#schedule
Our topic this half term would have been Light and Shadows. I have attached a picture of the objectives we would have covered and I will share the activities we would have done here. You can also go to the BBC website for a range of Science videos based on Light to help with your learning. They are very helpful and quite short!
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zbssgk7
Light and Shadow activity ideas:
-have a look at all of the different light sources-can you draw them or make a list?
-draw a diagram to show how light reflects so we can see-see image below for help
-look at what the words opaque, transparent and translucent mean-see sentence starters below
-investigate how shadows are formed (by a source blocking the light) and how the change throughout the day-see below for a shadow drawing activity and investigation idea, you could also make shadow puppets!
-create a sun safety poster-what do you need to be safe in the sun? Can you draw yourself ready to go in the sun and label what you have put on to make sure you are safe?
-design and your own sunglasses explaining how they are going to keep you and your eyes safe in the sunshine
Please send over any pictures or videos via the Year 3 email ( Year3@smrc-lit.co.uk ) as I am loving seeing your fantastic hard work. Keep it up, you are making me very proud :)
I can't wait to see you all when it is safe to do so. Keep safe and behave for your adults.

Week beginning 20.4.20 Extra Activities
Hello again Year 3, I hope you enjoyed a lovely Easter in the sunshine, talking about the Easter story and reflecting on Jesus's sacrifice for us. I am uploading some ideas of things we would have done in class this week. These are here if you needed some extra work to do as I still want you to be doing the Purple Mash daily activities, TT Rockstars and the work packs that were sent home too.
I am missing you lots and lots and thinking about you all. Keep safe :)
English
It is very exciting Year 3 as I received a letter from Hogwarts introducing our new book-Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone! This week we would have done the introduction activity looking at the front cover and answering the three questions-see image below, and we would have read Chapter 1 throughout the week. If you do not have a copy of the book, no worries, just search for it online and there are plenty of websites that have it to read or listen to. We would have also made a wand so if you find a special looking twig on your daily walk you could take it home and decorate it into your very own magic wand! We also would have researched the author J K Rowling and completed the Purple Mash activity seen in the image below. Finally, we would have sorted you into houses! Find a quiz online to find out what Hogwarts house you would be in and let me know by commenting on my recent Facebook post.
Maths
This week we would have started time. We would have looked at reminding ourselves of o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to as well as looking at comparing time-how many minutes in an hour, seconds in a minute and so on. We would have made a paper plate clock with a split pin if you have the resources. We would then have moved onto telling the time to 5 minute intervals-5 past, 10 past etc and looking into digital time eventually too. There are plenty of resources on Purple Mash if you search for 'Time' in the search bar. Keep asking your child throughout the day-what time is it?
RE
This weeks focus would have been a celebration of Jesus's resurrection. Make a poster to show what a miracle it is and reflect on how important Jesus is to us all. Spend some time doing a prayer session thanking Jesus for what he has done for us.
Week beginning 6.4.20 Easter activities
I hope you are all well Year 3!
Here are some Easter activities you can do, if you wanted to. There is a mix of Purple Mash and craft ideas. I would like you to focus on the Easter story and the religious meaning around Easter. On Purple Mash there are two activities to have a go at. Type in Easter and you will see a folder come up. If you click it there will be a few projects that come up. The ones I want you to look at are: The Easter Story and Easter Research. I will attach some pictures to show which ones. There is also a symmetry paint an egg activity which is quite fun too.
If you wanted you can do your own activity-sequence some pictures, a newspaper article or diary entry based on the events, a comic strip-you can be as creative as you like!
I am also uploading some ideas for Easter craft as you know I like to do lots of arts and crafts where possible! I have tried to find ones you could do at home with limited resources. Again, feel free to do your own or you could always still make an Easter garden!
As ever, these are extras and additional to the daily activities on Purple Mash, TT Rockstars, work-packs,reading and Spelling Frame activities we have set.
Please remember to take some time to spend quality time with your family safely and do what you can do.
Missing you all and hope you are staying safe.
Mrs Cavanagh :)
Week beginning 30.3.20 Purple Mash
This week, if you are stuck for something to do, I would like you to have a look at Purple Mash and complete a writing project. Just log on to Purple Mash, search Ancient Greece then choose a project to do! Remember to save it so we can print when back at school. There is so much to choose from, from posters to leaflets on the Olympics, food, theatre, clothing and all about the Gods. I look forward to seeing what you do :)
Keep safe Year 3, you are all in my thoughts!
Home Learning.
Hello Year 3, I hope you are all getting on with some super learning at home. I cannot wait to hear about it when I get to see you again. I just thought I would hop on with some ideas of what we have and haven't covered yet to give you an idea if you wanted extra things to do. If you find yourself with some free time-read or make your own book! :) Please note these are just extra suggestions, if you need/want them. Please also spend time playing games, building dens, baking and being with your family!
Missing you all and keep safe!!
Mrs Cavanagh :)
English:
Try to go on Spelling Frame, for 10-15mins a day, and practise the Year 2 and Year 3/4 spelling rules-there's some really fun games on here too and these are what we use to send the weekly spellings home. Also you can have a look at the high frequency words, next 200 high frequency words and the Year 3 and 4 spellings to practise.
Our next Big Write was going to be to write the ending of the Iron Man in your own words. We have read it in class a couple of times now. As always practising handwriting and use of expanded noun phrases would be great too.
Our next story to focus on in class will be Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. We haven't done anything on this yet. Can you maybe make a wand or a potion? Feel free to read or watch it in preparation for when we are back. No worries if you don't have it as we will be reading it all in class.
Maths:
We had just gone over column addition and subtraction and fractions. These are topics the children will know how to work out. Ones to revise were 2 digit x 1 digit multiplication and division. We did division by sharing and then bus stop method.
Topics we haven't covered, that I feel you could look at at home, are time and 2D and 3D shapes. It would be amazing if you could help the children to tell the time, from o clock, half past, quarter to and past, moving onto 5 minute intervals and then digital time.
As always, go on to TT Rockstars everyday for extra practise! I would also recommend the Top Marks Daily 10 mental maths challenge on their website: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10
RE:
As part of the RE we were focused on the process of Holy Communion. Talk to your child about it and what to expect on their big day!
We would also have looked at the Easter Story. Watch a cartoon of it on YouTube and do a writing project on it. Can you storyboard it with a sentence underneath or can you write it up as a book for me to read? You could even do it as a newspaper report or as a diary entry of someone who was there. You could even create a piece of art of the cross or make an Easter card for a family member.
Science:
Our current topic is Forces and Magnets. We had looked at friction and pushes and pulls. If you have a ramp and a car you could do your own investigation at home! We didn't manage to look at magnets so if you have any at home see what is magnetic around your house. You could even attach it to a stick and make a magnetic fishing game! Also, have a look at the Explorify website for some great Science videos!
Topic:
We had briefly started our new topic on Ancient Greece. Any research projects on this would be fab! You could do a poster, build a model or Greek pot, make Greek Gods snap cards, a painting of a God or landmark, practise some Olympic sports, fact files-try and be as creative as you can! Anything you do manage to make I would love to see or see a picture of when we are back!
IT:
Log onto Purple Mash and search for many amazing activities to complete. You can do a paint project, describe a Spring scene, write a report or make a leaflet-there are hundreds of activities to do. We have just written a postcard from a European landmark using Purple Mash. Just make sure you save them when you are done. There are plenty of coding games on here too which are great!
Welcome to Year 3 Class Page!
Welcome back to a very exciting half term in Year 3! I hope you have all had a lovely break.
I am very excited to be helping the children progress throughout the year and making sure they enjoy their first year in the Juniors! I look forward to working together with the children and yourselves to achieve this.
Our topics this half term will be Ancient Greece in History, sewing skills in DT in Art and forces and magnets in Science. In Music we will be looking at composing a piece of music using percussion instruments based on the planets. We will also be learning how to speak Spanish and using the computers for coding.
In Religion our focus this half term is 'Eucharist' and we are looking at the parts of Mass. We will also look at Lent and the build up to the Easter story. We will also have a focus on the Sacramental Programme as this half term children will take part in Reconciliation. We will also have an assembly on this.
I have also attached a medium-term plan for extra information.
Please do not hesitate to speak with myself or any of the Year 3 team if you have any questions,
Mrs Cavanagh
Important Information
Staff
Class Teacher: Mrs Cavanagh
Teaching Assistants: Miss Kelly, Miss Matthews and Mrs McCormick
Homework
Written homework will no longer be sent home; however, we encourage that children read their reading books and practise their spellings, times tables and handwriting throughout the week at home. Reading books and spellings will be sent home on a Monday. The spellings sheet needs to be completed and brought back into class by Friday. They will have a spelling test on the Friday morning. We would also like children to access Times Tables Rockstars at home to practise their times tables.
Reading Books
We will listen to the children read in school as part of their Guided Reading sessions. Please listen to your child read every night, even if it is just for 10 minutes before bedtime. We also ask that you log and comment on your child’s reading. It is important that children are encouraged to read widely at home, as it will have a positive impact on all aspects of learning. If you have any questions and issues regarding reading books, please do not hesitate to ask a member of Year 3 staff. Reading books will be given out a Monday and need to be returned by the following Monday, but if you finish before then we will change them.
PE Kits
Our PE sessions are on a Wednesday this half term whilst we have Anna's Dance, however please ensure that your child has a full PE kit in school for the week. If your child wears earrings, please ensure they are removed or covered ready for our PE sessions. It would also be practical and useful for all items of clothing to be labelled with your child’s name on.
Water Bottles
It is important that children stay hydrated throughout the school day to help aid concentration. If you wish your child to have a water bottle in school, please could you ensure it has a sports cap and has their name clearly labelled.
